Award winning Susan Johnson joins Consultivation By Jacqui Tibbits, Director, Consultivation Passionate about people and local communities, Susan brings with her over 33 years’ experience managing and supervising community service staff for three large Western Australian local government authorities. For the past 4.5 years Susan has worked as a Sector Development Consultant and recently a Business Development Consultant for CommunityWest where she developed, presented and evaluated professional development workshops for aged and community services staff, local government employees, non-government and private enterprises. Susan has also participated in designing and implementing innovative best practice initiatives, facilitating sector reform and project evaluations. Susan has had a key role in the progress of the Wellness Philosophy in the WA HACC Program. She has supported organisations, leaders, managers, staff and volunteers to implement positive Wellness focused changes in processes and practices. Susan continued her work in this area to 2016 where she co-authored the report Wellness: Now and for the Future, Promotion and Enhancement of the Wellness Philosophy. Susan has also co-designed an award winning community focused program. The program aimed to reconnect lonely and socially isolated individuals to people, events, resources and activities meaningful to them within their community. This program was awarded the 2016 ACSWA Community Services Excellence Award for Local Government and Community Services Collaboration. Susan is passionate about the prevention of elder abuse and her work in this area has been awarded a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. The award was for elder abuse prevention where she co-developed an elder abuse perpetrator program which won a Council of Australian Government award. Susan has worked clinically in both group work and one-on-one settings with her main areas of expertise being in cognitive behaviour therapy, narrative therapy and mindfulness. Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science, a Graduate Diploma of Arts in Counselling and a Masters in Counselling. Susan has also completed Graduate Certificates in the Australian Business Excellence Framework in the areas of organisational self-assessment and evaluation. Having presented widely at conferences throughout Australia in the areas of elder abuse, stress management, managing difficult behaviours, reduction of loneliness and social isolation, change management, mental health initiatives and community development Susan enjoys a reputation for the development of innovative and creative programs. I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely confused .. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!
